This is an illustration I created for a Dia De Los Muertos-themed event. I tried to evoke Latinx traditions through the colors, makeup, and the gardenia flowers (known as the “flowers of the dead”).
I knew this design could not just reflect Latinx heritage - it also needed to be striking and different in order to pique interest.
Graphic design has to be concise to succeed in the Information Age. My client asked for a logo that was very clean, very simple, and very modern-looking.
That is why I chose the fonts Futura and Raleway and resisted the temptation to add color.
I drew inspiration from the design patterns of Samoan tapa cloths, and chose to angle the layout in order to create the suggestion of motion. I do my best to infuse a sense of energy into my work
A design should feel like it's a living, breathing thing - about to leap off the screen or page.
Stories are persuasive, and exert a vice grip on our attention and memory.
